GHPC is alive and well

Bumping to demonstrate that GHPC is alive and well

someone has just hijacked the DNS...

to get round this you need to navigate to

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

open in notepad

add

208.67.212.131 forum.globalhousepricecrash.com

the save...

you should then be able to get to the site.

Which means open the "host" file with the note book option and simply paste the IP link at the bottom and save.

I better add that with Vista you may have to reboot the machine.

Dear GHPC'ers and sustainablers, please excuse the wordiness- the following only takes abour 1 minute- just wanted to keep it simple (attribution to Sean- I just added a bit- nothing tekkie- just things that might help).

If using Vista (and maybe XP too- dunno):

(keep this at a minimised but viewable level when doing the following or the “start” will disappear):

1) Go to “Start” -> All Programs -> Accessories
2) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt (windows needs your permission...” etc)
4) Click File -> Open (leave this open now and do the following)
5) Go to the “Start” thing again. In “search” paste in the following: "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts” (without the quote marks)
6) A little box called “hosts” will show up. Click on it. An “open with” will come up. Click on notepad. An empty box will come up- or if it has writing in it, wipe it all and type in the following:
208.67.212.131 forum.globalhousepricecrash.com
The above should be the only thing in the box.
7) Then go to “file” at the top and clock on “save” or “save as” and get rid of the “Text documents” default and make it "All Files (*.*)" Save it.
8) Restart your computer. When it comes back on, go to: forum.globalhousepricecrash.com from your browser. Ta da!

Interesting post from zaph, I'm starting to feel I've been watching too much Dr. Who......

i'm back - sort of.

i followed all the instructions to change hosts file. rebooted several times, cleared history. tried firefox, ie and safari but still get the site not available, does not exist message

i've managed to get in through http://cust11047.ipsdns.com/index.php?showtopic=56955 i can then sign in and navigate about.

perhaps i'm running through a proxy? how can i tell? when i go to tools>options>advanced>network>settings (in firefox) it says i'm not going through a proxy. would it have anything to do with settings on the wireless router?

any help appreciated. thanks

Conbran had some suggestions. Personally this is getting too much for me, how about going back stretched wire and tin cans?

I'm having similar problems at work. Using your work around, this is how I navigate ... albeit very slowly:

to open a link, I have to:

1. Copy the shortcut to notepad,

2. Replace everything up to the '?' in the URL with 'http://cust11047.ipsdns.com/index.php'. S0 for example:
http://forum.globalhousepricecrash.com/ ... 0&start=50
becomes http://cust11047.ipsdns.com/index.php?s ... 0&start=50

3. Paste the new URL into the browser's address bar.

The main forum link is effectively http://cust11047.ipsdns.com/index.php?s ... howforum=9

I can browse the GHPC site using those instructions but cannot log in. Are you logging in or being 'remembered' by cookies?

Hi Steveno, I can log in, post, edit......you name it. I've only used the file in the host to do this, but some are having problems. I'm not computer literate, you could always give tor a buzz in Rumpled Elf's site.

Not sure what you mean by that. The ISP direct needs to be placed underneath all the other stuff on it's own line. If placed it on a line in front of a hash, then it will be disabled.

People can of course disable the new line by placing a hash symbol in front of the line. There's no need to change anything else in the file.

7) Then go to “file” at the top and clock on “save” or “save as” and get rid of the “Text documents” default and make it "All Files (*.*)" Save it.

I meant instruction 7 above - I had saved the hosts file as a hosts.txt file and instead was using the "http://cust11047.ipsdns.com" cut and paste to browse bits of GHPC.
